Yay!! You’ve come to the volunteer page of our website. Every family can contribute in some way to our troop. The more volunteers we have, the better program we can provide for our scouts and the more manageable the workload is for each person.

Youth Protection

Nearly every official position requires Youth Protection.
To earn this, you must complete a 30-minute training video which can be done in the comfort of your own home!!  Create a user id and get started. It’s that simple.  When done, print and submit or e-mail the Committee Chair your certificate.

Merit Badge Counselor

Being a merit badge counselor is one of the most rewarding ways to help our scouts. Working one-on-one with a scout, helping him learn essential skills, is super gratifying.
Here are the steps to becoming a merit badge counselor:

  1. Fill out a BSA Adult Application, which you can get from your Committee Chair.
Enter “Merit Badge Counselor” as your position.  There is no fee for this position.
  2. Fill out a merit badge counselor application form, also available from your Committee Chair or fill out the online version and print it. You can specify the merit badges for which you would like to be a counselor.
  3. Complete Youth Protection and submit your certificate.
  4. Submit all 3 above forms to your Committee Chair/Advancement Chair.
Then be available when a scout, who has been assigned to you, approaches you.

Great! Once you’re a counselor, what’s next?
Read these merit badge procedures for counselors and approach the Scoutmaster or Advancement Chair if you have questions.

Campout Planner

Every campout needs a hero to lead the way. Our camping chair does so much to keep us organized and takes care of all the paperwork including sign-up sheets, permissions slips, tour permits, and so on. Which leaves all the fun stuff for our campout planners. This is a great job because it’s a one campout commitment and includes reserving a destination which has been selected by our scouts, working with our Patrol Leader Council (scouts) to identify activities, and preparing the scouts with the specific campout in mind.  Here’s a check sheet to help you on your way!!

Volunteer Policy

Our charted organization, the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland, determines the volunteer policy for our troop.  All volunteers are submitted to, and approved by, St. John’s Church.
St. John’s Church falls under the auspices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver which has certain requirements regarding adults who work with youth or senior citizens.
These requirements are:

  1. Attend a Safe Environment Training (SET) class,
  2. Read the Archdiocese of Denver Code of Conduct document, and sign Appendix E (page 33),
  3. Read and sign the Authorization to Obtain Criminal Background Check/Fair Credit Reporting Act Disclosure & Authorization form, and
  4. Read and sign the Volunteer Worker Hold-Harmless Agreement form.

The above requirements need to be completed in a timely fashion by all registered adult leaders in Troop 81, and any adult participating in an overnight campout or other overnight event.
The SET certificate of completion and the three signed forms should be turned in to the troop Committee Chair.
